Matri home pitch declared unsafe by the MHF

Tuesday April 13, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) have declared the pitch in Kangar unsafe and no MHF-Milo-NSC Junior League matches will be played there.

It is the designated home venue for Division Two side Matri and they will now have to play in either Alor Setar or Sungei Petani.

A team of MHF officials inspected the pitch last Saturday and found that it was not suitable to stage any more matches there.

“There are just too many areas on the pitch that pose a safety issue to players,” said MHF secretary Hashim Mohamed Yusof.

“We allowed the match (between Matri and Ipoh CC-MSN) on Sunday to proceed as some parts of the pitch were stitched back. But we felt that it was only a temporary measure. No further matches will be allowed to be played there.”

He added that the Kedah HA had agreed to provide technical assistance for Matri to play their next two home matches against SMK Datuk Taha (April 23) and MSN Sabah (April 25) in either Alor Setar or Sungei Petani.
